Trebanos

Pontardawe side Trebanos was formed in 1897 and rugby was played in the village for many years before that date. The club has had many highs and some lows since then, but it was the modern day establishment, crowned Champions of the Swalec 5 South-West division that interested Rugby Club Magazine. We managed to get some words from Chairman Chris Penhale this month.

“I’ve been Chairman since last… year and it is an enjoyable, but demanding role. It can be challenging and has its moments, but with the success of last year it has made things worthwhile. I hope we can now consolidate in Division 4 and then build for the season after next. We’ve a young side and it is a step up for us.”

“We’ve some plans to improve… our facility which include improving our training ground. We only have one main pitch at the moment but have a little bit of land available nearby. We are looking to develop it and make it into a training area. We are applying for grants in order to help us carry out the work at the moment.”

“Our side is made up of juniors… who have been developed over the years and we are once more placing a large emphasis on the kids in order to bring the section back to where it once was. Justin Jones and James Davis, with the help of Susan Watkins were central in beginning a youth structure at the start of the new millennium.”
